2014 Boston: MIT bioengineer works to unravel endometriosis (Link)
She found in a third of women with confirmed Endometriosis, that a network of 13 immune system proteins were elevated. They cross referenced trying to figure out what was releasing them. This led to a cell called macrophage (a type of white blood cell that ingests foreign material). They selected an experimental drug to see if they could inhibit (stop / prevent) the process to patient cells and found they were able to reduce the noninflationary factors secreted by the cells.
