My Newborn List: Nursing & Feeding

Must Haves # 4: Breastfeeding Accessories

  • Nursing Pillow
I like to use nursing pillows when I am breastfeeding. It frees my hands when I am typing on my laptop (when a laptop is on another surface) or when I am eating at a table or restaurant. The travel boppy has been helpful when I have been nursing in an airport, on an airplane or if the car is stopped and I am nursing in the car when traveling.  I have used off and on with 3 children.

  • Burp Cloths
I do not remember if my other babies spit up as much as my third baby is. I have had it go past my shoulder and down my back quite a few times. So I am so glad to have burp cloths. I have quite a few well-loved flannel receiving blankets as burp cloths, as well as regular burp cloths. What is nice about receiving blankets is that you can use it as a nursing cover, car seat cover, as a regular blanket, or burp cloth. I also love to use pre-folds, because they are so multi-functional. I can use it as a burp cloth, in my cloth diapers (pockets and gPant hybrids), under my baby as I am changing a diaper. I have even used them under my baby when he was sleeping since I know some babies can pee out of their newborn cloth diapers.  I have used off and on with 3 children.

  • Nursing Pads
I can leak so much in those beginning months of breastfeeding and this is one item I forget sometimes but need. At 5 weeks postpartum I am still leaking a ton! I have used both reusable and disposable. I prefer reusable for cost saving and can reuse for multiple children. I am using the reusable pads I used from when I had my second child. However, I do not have that many reusable, since I also had used a box of disposables when I tried the reusable for the first post my second my child. I will most likely buy more reusable. What is nice about the disposable is that it is convenient and you can have so many. The downside is you can have so many to a point you do not use them all. I probably would not save disposable pads until I could use them again, but rather find someone to give them away to so they don’t go to waste. That has happened to me where my extra disposables went to waste. I know you are probably thinking how does a mother who breastfeeds her children for over 2 years have unused breast pads? The thing is when I am breastfeeding a 2-year-old toddler, my breasts are not leaking at all vs when I am breastfeeding my 1-month-old baby. Once I get to around 24 months, I’m barely able to pump out what my nursing toddler drinks. That has just been experiencing breastfeeding two children over 2 years so far.

  • Boon Squeeze Spoon
The Boon Baby Spoon is a portable feeding spoon. You put your baby food into the spoon's pouch and gentle squeeze it onto the spoon. I purchased mine from Target. And at the time there two brands to choose from where Munchkin and Boon. I bought this as a first-time mother with my first baby, because I liked the idea of using it for travel. However, this product leaked a bunch after several attempts.

Nov 2016 Update: Would I get this again? This product leaked so much that my answer is no.

Clear Blue Plus Pregnancy Test (Blue Dye)

Clear Blue Plus Pregnancy Test  with Blue Dye (+ / - ) This is what a negative looks like: Side Note: Blue dyes are often said to more frequently give false positives than pink dye. Some online boards that will tweak (alter) a pregnancy test photo to help individuals identify if the test is a faint positive or indeed negative, often will not do blue dyes.

Frida Mom for Post Laparoscopy Care

My Frida Mom Basket for Post-Laparoscopy Care. Why I Love the Frida Mom Line (Even Beyond Motherhood) One of the things I’ve really come to appreciate is how versatile the Frida Mom line is—not just for new moms, but for anyone recovering from abdominal surgeries, such as laparoscopies for endometriosis. After surgery, comfort and gentle care are everything. That’s where the C-section recovery underwear comes in. Even if you haven’t had a baby, the design makes sense—when you have incisions on your abdomen, you need something soft, high-waisted, and non-restrictive. These disposable underwears are a lifesaver compared to standard disposable Depends. The big difference? You can build your own pad system . Start with the underwear. Add a menstrual pad. Layer on a witch hazel perineal liner, perineal cream, or both. Attach an optional heating pad for cramping. It’s completely customizable depending on what your body needs that day. I also want to mention the liners pack...

My Laparoscopy Recovery Essentials: What’s Actually Helping Me Heal

Disclaimer: Links to all the products I mentioned are included. I am not being paid to promote any of them and do not receive payments. Skin sensitivity may impact your experiences with these products. Recovering from my laparoscopy has been a journey, and honestly, some days are more uncomfortable than others. Over the past week, I’ve found a few products that have made a huge difference in how I feel—both physically and mentally. Here’s what’s been helping me get through it: 1. Body Wash That Feels Safe Before and after surgery, I wanted something gentle that still felt clean. I’ve been using Dove Antibacterial Body Wash , and it’s been perfect. It keeps the incision area clean without stinging or irritating my skin, which is such a relief.  2. Underwear That Actually Works I never thought I’d get excited about disposable underwear, but Frida Mom Disposable C-Section Underwear has been a game-changer. They’re soft, supportive, and don’t press on my stomach—exactly what ...
