- Disclaimer
I want to say, these are my own opinions on this product review. I am not being paid to discuss these products in a positive manner. If I were, I would let you know up front. I do always say, even for common items, such as body wash, shampoos, and conditioners, and lotions, to always do your own research before buying or using a product and taking advice from online.
- Sensitive Skin
I put lotion on my children's skin, to help moisturize and prevent it from becoming dry and cracked. However, my daughter almost always says it burns or it's itchy, and immediately goes to wipe her skin, and wipes it off. At first, I didn't know if this was just avoiding bedtime antics, you know the "I'm thirsty" and "I have to go potty" when it's time to go to bed or really sensitive skin. Then her younger brother started to say the same things.
We have gradually begun switching to natural products, for the past 3 years when we first learned more about the chemicals present in our everyday products and environment. My biggest hang up is natural products can be so expensive and often leading us to buy what we can afford, products such as Vaseline, St. Ives, Jergens, and some that say sensitive or mild that really aren't, such as the supposed mild Cetaphil brand. This time I had a little more money and tried Jessica Alba's The Honest Company Baby products for the first time. (I have tried other natural baby soap and lotions that I like Burt's Bees, Shea Moisture, and Mommy's Bliss).
When it came time to use the product, my child was already shrieking away and expecting the lotion to make her itchy. How sad! And I prepared myself a little bit to hear her say, "Mom, it makes me itchy. Take it off". This time both kids said It felt fine. The next day we had a short discussion about why this other lotion felt better. I said we are blessed to live in a first world country and we have a lot of products to choose from. However, I said, "Not all of the products we have to choose from are good. Wouldn't it be nice if every person cared about the product that they made and only used the most natural ingredients?"
- Bed Time Routine
We printed new bedtime routines charts for our older children that we found online and had them laminated. They are currently hanging on our fridge. We are incorporating a warm bath with The Honest Company Ultra Calming Dreamy Lavender Body Wash & Shampoo, followed by drying and applying The Honest Company Ultra Calming Dreamy Lavender lotion before putting on Pajamas. For my baby, I use the same two things I listed for my older children and I also use The Honest Company Ultra Calming Lavender Conditioner for his hair. (With my older kids, I do use different shampoos and conditioners). I've noticed since adding a warm bath and massage with lotion consistently to our children's bedtime routine, our children are sleeping better and going to sleep faster at night.
- Scent
Also, the scent of Lavender is known to have a calming effect and it definitely seems to be working. I also like the way it smells. In my opinion, it is not an offensive smell or an over powering and strong smell. I am pretty impressed with this product so far that I have been using nonstop for the past 3 days on my children and would absolutely buy this again and definitely in this scent. I do know there are other scents.
- Buying
I purchased this product from my local Target. I found it in the section of all the more natural baby products, such as Babyganics, Shea Moisture, Burt's Bees, and the mixed opinion California Baby. My only con is the cost of the more natural baby products. However, its worth it to see my kids doing well with it and there is no harm in trying a new product, right? The worst that can happen is, it's not the product for you.
