My Bathroom Must Haves (2017)

Links are included.
This is a list of my favorite bathroom items that make my ordinary bathroom feel a little more luxurious without a hefty price tag.

Disclaimer:
Product availability and prices will vary based on location. These products are most likely available in the United States, I am not sure at this time if they are available in other countries and if they are, which ones. I purchased most of these products at my local Wal-Mart because I got some items for under $15 dollars. There are a few higher priced items, I mention too. I am not affiliated with Wal-Mart and Target or being paid by Wal-Mart, Target, or any other store, to promote these products. Pictures coming soon.

'After a lavender hiatus, I've rediscovered this scent and have added it as a must-have in several forms for a clean and spa-like feel to my master bath. This scent is one of my favorites for non-antibacterial handsoaps. While I love my lavender, there are other scents I really like too, such as Method Honey Crisp Apple and Dial Coconut Water & Mango.
To give my bathroom an expensive look at a budget-friendly cost, I found these bronze hand soap dispensers at my local Wal-Mart. What makes them great, is that they are reusable and inexpensive. All I have to do is get a refill pack of packet

We are a family of 5 using the same bathroom the majority of the time. I also use this bathroom during the week for the children I provide childcare for. Needless to say, it gets a lot of use. I like to keep a container of disinfectant wipes in my bathroom, so in the mornings I can wipe down the toilet, counters, and tub. I put my container right on the tank, so I don't have to hunt down a cleaning rag and product. When I am done I simply throw away. It also comes in handy if the bathroom gets messy before the end of the day if I notice a smear of poop or drops of urine on the seat. Or a quick wipe of the dirt on our squatty potty stool.
While ordinary unscented toilet paper is fine and will get the job done well, I really like that this one is scented and smells good. It's a little extra that can make an ordinary bathroom feel more like a spa.
Simply changing your old bathroom hardware, can give a dated bathroom an updated look. One of those is the bronze toilet paper holder instead of your traditional toilet paper holder.
Maybe, it's just me, but a clean and nice smelling bathroom is inviting to my family, guests, and me. It makes my trip to the bathroom more pleasant. So I use a candle warmer to warm my scented candle throughout the day when we are home and awake (I do not burn while we are out of the home or asleep). My mornings usually start at 6 am, which is when I turn on the candle warmer. When it's warmed the candle into a complete liquid state, it smells amazing and can even be smelled in nearby rooms. Once I turn it off, it doesn't take long for the wax to cool and turn back into a solid state for the next use. I turn it on when I know I am going to be home for at least a few hours or longer. A plus is with the candle warmer, it does not burn as fast as lighting it. It takes longer to go through the candle which balances the cost of buying a $3-10 dollar candle. The bigger the jar, usually the higher the price unless you're shopping in stores, such as Ross or TJ Maxx, where you can find department store products for half the price or more. To warm my candles, I am using an inexpensive candle warmer from Wal-Mart, Candle Hearth Candle Warmer.
We've all experienced bathrooms that smell absolutely horrible, the holding your breath or trying hard to not inhale the offensive odors. Nothing makes me want to leave a bathroom faster or skip using it, then a dirty bathroom that smells bad. That's why I keep an air freshener spray on top of the toilet to help freshen the air in between uses or for the potty user to spray after they have finished. This only costs me $0.99, not including tax. I usually buy two at a time, because of how frequently we use this. I prefer after each bathroom use for everyone to spray a generous amount to freshen the air. If I am able, I buy 2 bottles about once a week for $1.98, not including tax. So in a month that is about $7.92, not including tax for a fresh smell. In a year, that means $95.04 dollars. If I can make one bottle last, I can cut this expense down to $45.52, not including tax for the year.
You could say I have a Lavender theme going on. Well, because I do! I couldn't believe when I found out Glad had odor shield tall kitchen bags in a Febreeze Mediterranean Lavender scent. While a regular trash bag will work,  this helps keep the trash from smelling bad.
While we are on the topic of things smelling bad, another place that can get neglected is your toilet bowl! Whenever I go to a spa or upscale place, on the rare occasion mind you, everything usually smells good. Even their bathrooms. Everything in the bathroom in fact usually smells nice and calming. What's nice about this product is it keeps things smelling nice, all you have to do is hook it to your toilet. It requires no work at all. My kind of cleaning!

I also like products that are easy to use and require little to no effort. With the Ty-D-Bol Continuous cleaning agent, it requires a little more effort: you remove your toilet lid, extended the hanger clip on the cleaning bottle, take the lid off the bottle and hang this into your toilet tank. Then you put the toilet lid back on. This will turn your toilet water blue with every flush until it runs out. Once it runs out, you open the toilet lid and throw the bottle away. The best part is this only costs me $.88 cents, not including tax. This means I get to spend less time cleaning my toilet bowl.
I love finding new natural products! I stumbled across the Method line at my local Target and decided to give it a try. Boy, am I glad I did. I love the different and unexpected scents. Best of all its supposed to be natural with simple ingredients.

Additional Thoughts:

To summarize, this works for me, but may not work for everyone.

 On The Different Smells
Some readers might be wondering if the scents of these products are overpowering? For me personally, I do not feel that the scents are. I feel like the scents are mostly light and overall work together versus against each other. I feel most of the scents, you have to be in that area of the bathroom. For example, the toilet bowl deodorizer. I feel like I have to be next to the toilet to smell it. I am fine with that. I know it works, but I am okay if I don't smell it in the bathroom. I will add a little Disclaimer here. There may be those with sensitivities, who might still be bothered by scents in general or multiple scents. I have someone I know that is like that, spraying a deodorizing refreshing spray and/or lighting a candle a few minutes before they enter will send that person into a coughing fit and they will need to go outside for fresh air.

On The Cost of Cleaning Products
Money is tight. Cleaning products, although they can be a need sometimes, such as toilet paper, can add up. I can see some people frowning at the expense of what these things might cost and I generally agree. I am also in that stage of life of young people trying to increase their income, save, buy on a budget, buy things second hand and break out of that living pay check to pay check and being completely broke in-between. So I buy what I can afford and I definitely try to stock up whenever possible. I also try to pick products that last and are worth their price if they cost more than a few dollars. For example, the Johnson and Johnson Septic Tank Cleaner. This was about $8 dollars, not including tax at Wal-Mart. A bit on the pricey side. Well, the small packet is a 3 month supply. The packages, says use one every 30 days. The 3 month supply kind of balances out the $8 dollar cost and you don't have to add this to your shopping list every month.  With the septic tank packets, you open the box, drop one in the toilet and flush. It's that easy. I'm always glad to spend that investment because they keep my toilet clean and running smoothly. A little maintenance is worth it. Eight dollars is by far cheaper than spending hundreds on a messed up septic tank and pipes.

Conclusion
I want to do more in this life, then simply survive and endure and do things because I have to. Cleanliness is a have to for many reasons. But I also want to enjoy it. I feel like I have accomplished something when I wake up every morning and clean my bathroom. I also enjoy starting my day off with a clean bathroom and appreciate using one that is organized and cleaned. I think a frequently messy and dirty space can have a negative and stressful effect on you, while a clean, organized, and nicely scented one can have a positive and calming effect.

Frida Mom for Post Laparoscopy Care

My Frida Mom Basket for Post-Laparoscopy Care. Why I Love the Frida Mom Line (Even Beyond Motherhood) One of the things I’ve really come to appreciate is how versatile the Frida Mom line is—not just for new moms, but for anyone recovering from abdominal surgeries, such as laparoscopies for endometriosis. After surgery, comfort and gentle care are everything. That’s where the C-section recovery underwear comes in. Even if you haven’t had a baby, the design makes sense—when you have incisions on your abdomen, you need something soft, high-waisted, and non-restrictive. These disposable underwears are a lifesaver compared to standard disposable Depends. The big difference? You can build your own pad system . Start with the underwear. Add a menstrual pad. Layer on a witch hazel perineal liner, perineal cream, or both. Attach an optional heating pad for cramping. It’s completely customizable depending on what your body needs that day. I also want to mention the liners pack...

My Laparoscopy Recovery Essentials: What’s Actually Helping Me Heal

Disclaimer: Links to all the products I mentioned are included. I am not being paid to promote any of them and do not receive payments. Skin sensitivity may impact your experiences with these products. Recovering from my laparoscopy has been a journey, and honestly, some days are more uncomfortable than others. Over the past week, I’ve found a few products that have made a huge difference in how I feel—both physically and mentally. Here’s what’s been helping me get through it: 1. Body Wash That Feels Safe Before and after surgery, I wanted something gentle that still felt clean. I’ve been using Dove Antibacterial Body Wash , and it’s been perfect. It keeps the incision area clean without stinging or irritating my skin, which is such a relief.  2. Underwear That Actually Works I never thought I’d get excited about disposable underwear, but Frida Mom Disposable C-Section Underwear has been a game-changer. They’re soft, supportive, and don’t press on my stomach—exactly what ...
