Goal: Pregnancy Budget
Part VII: Maternity Clothes
I always feel like I never have enough clothes, whether I am pregnant or postpartum, just because my body is always changing. Even how things once fit, they don't fit the same if they still fit. It can be difficult with a small budget to get enough maternity clothes. I bought several pieces of maternity clothes while I was pregnant with my first and tried to make my regular clothes last as long as I could. My mother and mother in law even purchased a few pieces for me. With my second, I tried to find clothes here and there on a small budget and got a few pieces. I also reused my nursing bras, that are now terribly worn from breastfeeding my first for 30 months and now my second for over 16 months. One problem, I realized was maternity stores were too expensive for my small budget and not all stores had a great maternity line. Some even had no maternity clothes. Now as I am trying for a third, I've decided if I look for things on clearance and sale before I need them (so while I am trying to conceive), I will have a better chance of having the maternity wardrobe I need when I am pregnant. 36-40 weeks, sometimes plus, of pregnancy does seem like a long time, but when you're buying expensive baby or pregnancy items on a small budget, sometimes its not long enough.
I highly recommend moms on a budget buying from second hand / consignment stores. Buying things after season, clearance or sale. I even recommend buying from E-bay. My maternity clothes are split into 5 sizes, extra small, small, medium, large and extra large to cover all stages of my changing pregnant body. I was way bigger with my second than I was with my first. During my fifth cycle, I started buying maternity clothes from e-bay. I scored a maternity top for $3.04, some maternity tops are $10 or more. I've recently found more deals on maternity clothes that I scored. I will show you in the pictures below.
