Vitamin D & Energy
In the article, “Can a Lack of Vitamin D Cause You to be Fatigued?” the author, Laura Neidziocha writes, “Vitamin D contributes to balancing moods and fatigue. Not getting enough Vitamin D can leave you tired and lacking energy. Vitamin D deficiency may also cause depression and chronic fatigue” (Neidziocha).
Vitamin D & Fertility
According to an article on Dr. Mercola's website, Mercola.com, "Vitamin D and folate deficiency are known to be associated with infertility in women. Previous studies, such as one published in The Journal of Nutrition, also found that although vitamin-D-deficient female rats were capable of reproduction, it reduced fertility by an astounding 75 percent, diminished litter sizes by 30 percent, and impaired neonatal growth. Vitamin D impacts fertility on multiple levels, including boosting levels of progesterone and estrogen in women, which may help regulate menstrual cycles and improve your likelihood of conceiving naturally" (Vitamin D May Dramatically Improve Infertility).
Vitamin D & Pregnancy
Author, Lindsay Konkel, wrote an article titled, 7 Ways Pregnant Women Affect Their Babies. Her piece encourages women thinking about becoming pregnant to have their Vitamin D levels tested. She writes, “There is growing evidence that low levels of the "sunshine vitamin" during pregnancy may lead to health problems for mother and child. This is because more than 30 studies linked low levels of vitamin D to an increased risk of gestational diabetes, pre-eclampsia, and lower birth weight" (Konkel).
My Experiences
I know all or most prenatal vitamins come with Vitamin D, but if a woman were deficient what's in prenatal vitamins may not be enough. I am deficient, even though I have been taking prenatal vitamins overall since trying to conceive my first child in 2009. I have spent most of my life living in a warmer climate and mostly sunshine all year round states. I was surprised when my lab results said I was. I take an extra vitamin D supplement along with my prenatal to make sure my vitamin D levels are in a normal range.
My Current Vitamin D3
I am currently using Nivagen Brand. The dose is 50,000 IU once per week. You can buy this at Amazon.com.
