Soy Safety & Side Effects

Safety According to Web Md, "Taking dietary supplements with soy extracts is  POSSIBLY SAFE  when used short-term (up to 6 months).  Long-term use of high doses of soy dietary supplements is  POSSIBLY UNSAFE ."  According to the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health states, "Long-term use of soy isoflavone supplements might increase the risks of endometrial hyperplasia (a thickening of the lining of the uterus that may lead to cancer). Soy foods do not appear to increase the risk of endometrial hyperplasia. It is uncertain whether soy isoflavone supplements are safe for women" (Soy, 2016). I found a study that "investigated the relationship between soy isoflavone [found in foods] intake and the risk of nulliparity (condition of a woman not bearing offspring) and null gravidity (a woman who has not been pregnant).    It was a cross-sectional study (a type of study that analyzes data collected from a population at a speci...

Luthenizing Hormone

According Mescape, "An isolated luteinizing hormone (LH) deficiency is an uncommon condition. LH deficiency almost always occurs in conjunction with follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) deficiency because LH and FSH are secreted by the same pituitary gonadotrope cells. LH deficiency can manifest in females or males as delayed puberty,  hypogonadism  at any age, or reproductive abnormalities that can be dramatic or subtle. LH and FSH play central roles in the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis, and, thus, conditions related to LH and FSH deficiency can be caused by pathology of either the hypothalamus or pituitary. Careful analysis of the presenting problem, the patient’s overall health, and the hormonal profile is often necessary to determine the cause of LH deficiency and, thus, the most appropriate treatment." About Luthenizing Hormone Also known as LH Produced in the pituitary gland Helps With What? In women, regulates menstrual cycles and egg production. ...

Adequate Thyroid Levels

According to Nicole Jardim's website, " If your thyroid is not producing adequate thyroid hormone, you will not make enough progesterone. The reason for this is that you need a certain amount of thyroid hormone to make pregnenolone (the mother hormone to progesterone) which then makes progesterone." In the article,  Postpartum Depression & Breastfeeding Challenges: The Connection , from Postpartum Progress.com, " As many as 5% of women will develop a thyroid imbalance postpartum. And some studies have found a link between low thyroid levels and poor milk supply. Low thyroid levels (also known as hypothyroid) have also been shown to induce depressive symptoms in women" (Kripke). -Bibliography -  Kripke, Kate, LCSW. Optimal Health

It is important to have optimal health as much as possible before trying to conceive or becoming pregnant. When health is not optimal, it can cause issues with becoming pregnant or carrying a pregnancy to full term. Cholesterol Progesterone

Have Adequate Cholesterol Levels

Another cause of LPD is abnormally low cholesterol levels which results in low to no progesterone production. All hormones, including progesterone, must have cholesterol in order to be manufactured by the body. Being  underweight  can also be a cause for LPD due to low cholesterol and body fat levels which can cause low hormonal levels across the board"  (Rodriguez). Bibliography C.H. Adequate Progesterone Levels

Irregular Ovulation Women can have irregular cycles while breastfeeding, coming off birth control, and with the return of their postpartum menstrual after having a baby. According to Nicole Jardim, " If you’re not ovulating regularly, there will be inadequate progesterone" (Jardim). Short Cycles According to the author, Heithr Rodriguez,  " If progesterone levels drop too soon (usually within a few days of ovulation), then the body will automatically think that it is time to flush out the uterus and start all over again. Very short cycles (usually less than 24 days) is usually a sign of this type of luteal phase defec t.   Another cause of LPD is abnormally low cholesterol levels which results in low to no progesterone production. All hormones, including progesterone, must have cholesterol in order to be manufactured by the body. Being  underweight  can also be a cause for LPD due to low cholesterol and body fat levels which can cause low hormonal levels a...

Take A Prenatal Vitamin

Ideally, you want to start taking prenatal vitamins before or when you start trying to conceive. Even if you were not trying or planning on becoming pregnant at this time, but did, start taking your prenatal vitamins right away, now that you have discovered that you are pregnant. Prenatal vitamins do not replace having a balanced diet. However, they do help if you may not be getting all the foods you need in your diet or are too sick to eat much. You want a prenatal vitamin that has at least 400 mcg of folic acid. I actually prefer the ones that at least have 800 mcg. There are some prenatal vitamins that have more than either of these amounts and some women who may need higher doses of folic acid.   Click here to read more about that:  Special Cases That Require More Folic Acid .  If you are having a hard time with your prenatal, read  Tips for taking prenatal . Not all prenatal vitamins are the same, to read more about how they may differ in ingredie...

Soy Isoflavones Doses

Soy Doses in Comparison to Clomid 100 mg of Soy is equivalent to 50 mg of Clomid The lowest dose women who take Clomid is usually 50 mg (and on those doses some have said to have gotten pregnant with twins).  An opinion was given from a message board that those using soy Isoflavones as a Clomid replacement would need to take 240 mg.

Soy Isoflavones: Safe While Breastfeeding?

There are some websites, such as Kelly Mom that suggests most things are compatible with breastfeeding, including taking clomid. Some of the concerns potential breastfeeding users had were if it would affect their milk supply. Some other research I found on safety for the product was recommended that clomid does not affect older babies / toddlers who are nursing 1-2x a day and spacing the clomid pill and feeding by 6 hours. While other research indicated that most doctors did not recommend taking it while breastfeeding.    Web Md also says, "Soy protein is  LIKELY SAFE  to be used during pregnancy and breast-feeding when consumed in amounts normally found in food. However, soy may be  POSSIBLY UNSAFE  when used during pregnancy in medicinal amounts. Higher doses during pregnancy might harm development of the baby. Not enough is known about the safety of higher doses during breast-feeding. Stay on the safe side and avoid larger dos...

Soy Isoflavones Days

What Cycle Days Should You Take Soy? Because it is similar to Clomid, women take it the same as they would when taking Clomid, on cycle days 3-7, 4-8 or 5-9.  It is said taking them earlier, starting cycle day 3, is suppose to produce more eggs, and starting them later, cycle day 5 is supposed to produce a more mature egg. It is not recommended that women take this throughout their entire cycle. It says ovulation will usually occur 5-10 days after taking it.  It is also not recommended that women who are pregnant consume high levels of soy, so I probably would only take it during the certain cycle days listed and discontinue for the rest of the cycle. One woman on a message board shared her success with this product, she took it cycle days 4-8, 80 mg for cycle day 4, 5 and 6. Then 120 mg on cycle day 7 and 8. She said she knew she ovulated, because of the pain and was someone who ovulated on her own and got pregnant her first month taking it. There are some ...

Ovulation and Alternation

Amazing Cycle According to the  Amazing Cycle , "The truth is you may alternate every month, but you have a 50/50 chance every month for ovulating on either side, unless there is a medical reason you do not." Babies Online According to  Babies Online , "In Healthy women both ovaries can release eggs, but they do not alternate consistently, with the right ovary releasing an egg one month, and the left releasing an egg the next month." Your Right Ovary Rules According to Your Right Ovary Rules,   "Your right ovary is likelier to ovulate more than the left. This means that in two consecutive months, the right side is probably the one doing more of the hard work producing the dominant follicle that could become a baby. Multiple studies have shown that, in one study 57.7 % of women have right side ovulation, in a second study, 54.5% of women have right side ovulation, and in a third study, 62% of total follicles are on the right. Right side ovulation favor...
