I tore in a much better place the second time around, so I was able to go to the bathroom on my own during my mom and baby stay at the hospital. I was discharged 18 hours after being admitted by my choice. The advice I got with an un-medicated birth is you will most likely feel good after birth but its important to still rest. Our first week, we were so busy trying to do a ton of events with my mom and my husband's family while my mom was staying to help for a couple of weeks. We had my late baby shower, which turned into a "meet the baby" party and the baby blessing. Events we had to drive 30 minutes to and back from that were a few hours long. I even went to the mall for several minutes with baby covered in his stroller to get a bra fitting when the milk came in, so I could know what size nursing bras to buy online. At 9 days postpartum, I had already lost 12 lbs. At 5 weeks and 2 days, I lost 27 lbs.
The only unpleasant part of postpartum recovery was I had diarrhea almost every day for two weeks, something I don't remember with my first postpartum recovery. At first, I just thought it was something I ate and my body was just trying to get back to normal after having been pregnant for 39 weeks. As time went on, I began having abdominal pain and cramping when going to the bathroom, discomfort and tenderness in my stomach, burning urine and a few days of fevers despite taking Tylenol. At a little over 2 weeks postpartum, I went to see my obstetrician with my symptoms. My obstetrician suspected UTI (Urinary tract infection), and placed on an antibiotic that is considered to be safe to use while breastfeeding. My lab results revealed I did not have a UTI. He suggested I visit my primary doctor. I went to my primary doctor who felt my stomach and listened to my symptoms. She suggested two possible reasons: My gallbladder needed to be removed (which she said is very common after some women have a baby) and if its not the gallbladder then the diagnosis of IBS (irritable bowel syndrome). I went to the hospital for an ultrasound, where they looked at my gallbladder and other surrounding organs, such as my spleen, liver and kidneys. Later that day I received news that I had gallstones in my gallbladder and was scheduled to meet with a surgeon for a consult. The surgeon felt my symptom were more IBS and the surgery for my gallbladder to be removed was postpone.
