Cloth Diaper Myths

Addressing some of the questions commonly asked about cloth diapers. 1. Cloth diapering is a lot of work Does cloth diapering require a lot of work? Yes and no. I believe in the beginning, it can require extra work for some as you try to figure out how to best make it work for your family and you. Sometimes that means trying things a few different ways before you find what works best. For example, I tried using many different laundry detergents at the beginning: regular, baby and sensitive. I tried using different amounts of these detergents from full cups to 2 tablespoons before we found a cloth diaper detergent we liked. When it comes to measuring out detergent it’s a no brainer now. However, it required some experimenting at first. Once you have a cloth diapering routine that works best for you, it becomes second nature as putting dirty clothes in the washer and switching wet clothes into the dryer. It will require about the same amount of time as the rest of your laundry. I was...

Best Time for Intimacy

It is suggested the best time for intimacy according to some couples is in the morning, because sperm is supposedly more mobile and active.  Some  rumors going around are sperm maybe more replenished in the morning and morning intimacy sways for a boy baby. Many couples have different antidotes of their best times for conceiving.  According to experts its not completely clear, but some experts believe sperm counts are higher in the morning. However, some research has been done that suggests afternoon sperm is better than morning. While other research has been done that suggests time of day actually has no effect on sperm characteristics. So is there a certain time of day that is better than others for intimacy? We may never actually know.    One thing that can be said though, if time of day did affect sperm, those with normal sperm would have minimal differences. What's important part is to have healthy and normal sperm. (For those who are having i...

Topamax / Topiramate

Brand: Topamax Generic:  Topiramate Use: Migraine Prevention My husband suffers from chronic migraines and had a bad reaction to this medicine. We were very surprised to read this information on fertility as he was given this medicine to take as we are in the midst of trying for another baby. Thankfully we found this information before he could take this medicine more than a day or so. This is a drug one that couples hoping to conceive should avoid, if possible. For females: It may cause birth defects in babies for expecting mothers taking this drug.  For males:   A study was done on male rats who ingested 100 mg of Topiramate in 60 days. The male rats had decrease weight in reproductive organs and the number of female rats impregnated by male rats on long term Topiramate diet had decreased. The number of implantation and viable pregnancies from females impregnated by male rats on long term Topiramate diets decreased. Link to study:   http...

Breastfeeding Overview

Breastfeeding Child Length of Breastfeeding Weaning 1 Newborn - 30 Months I weaned during my second pregnancy at 22 weeks pregnant, due to nipple sensitivity (nursing aversion issue), lack of knowledge and experience of breastfeeding during pregnancy. 2 Newborn – 32 months My third was born when my second was 30 months old. My second tandem breastfed with my third from 30-32 months, before self-weaning at 32 months. Side Notes: I nursed through my entire third pregnancy. Dry nursing from about 27-29 months and tandem nursing from 30-32 months. 3 Newborn – 4 years and 10 months  I breastfed my third through toddlerhood and COVID. My original goal was 36 months. I nursed longer than I planned due to an unexpected Autism diagnosis. In some ways, it was harder to wean because the communication piece that I had with my first two was missing. I did a gradual...

Experiences with Luteal Phase

Example One I read a post online from mothering.com, where breastfeeding mothers were talking about their experiences with postpartum menstrual and luteal phases. This is how they each described their luteal phases and experiences. Mom Postpartum Return Luteal Phase Notes from the moms A 18.5 months 6-7 B 15 months 6 Took 200-600 mg of B6 every day and got pregnant 2 cycles later. C 11 months 5 Next cycle, it was a luteal phase of 8, followed by pregnancy. D 18 months 4 Took 100 mg of B6 and next cycle was a 7. Says one should not go over 200 mg. E 5 months 5 Next cycle was 8. Had several cycles where it was 8-9. Thinks moms with older nurslings have a better chance of lengthening cycles faster. Says taking B6 helps suppress prolactin levels which helps progesterone levels rise. F 18 months ? Luteal phase is 8-...

Luteal Phase Experiences

With trying to conceive # 2 & # 3… The later postpartum menstrual comes,  the longer the luteal phase With trying to conceive my second child while breastfeeding I allowed my menstrual cycle to return naturally at 17 months postpartum, only being affected by the breastfeeding. Since I was still learning how to chart when my first postpartum menstrual came when trying to conceive my second child, my first two fertility charts are not very reliable, although they say luteal phase of 8 through the OPK setting on Fertility Friend. However, my third and fourth fertility chart is a little more reliable and my luteal phase was mostly a 9 throughout my 9 menstrual periods / 6 cycles trying. Here is my chart from trying to conceive my second. Below is an example of how my luteal phase changed when I was trying to conceive my 2nd. Month Postpartum Period Cycle # Length of Days Luteal Phase # Ovulation Day B6 Vitamins April 2012 Period 1 Cycle 1 36...
