I
read a post online from mothering.com, where breastfeeding mothers were talking
about their experiences with postpartum menstrual and luteal phases. This is
how they each described their luteal phases and experiences.

Took 200-600 mg of B6 every day and
got pregnant 2 cycles later.

Next cycle, it was a luteal phase of
8, followed by pregnancy.

Took 100 mg of B6 and next cycle was a
7. Says one should not go over 200 mg.

Next cycle was 8. Had several cycles
where it was 8-9. Thinks moms with older nurslings have a better chance of
lengthening cycles faster. Says taking B6 helps suppress prolactin levels
which helps progesterone levels rise.

Luteal phase is 8-9 on 3rd
cycle. Also thinks nursing keeps progesterone low and in turn it causes a
short luteal phase. And short luteal phase means your body can not handle nursing
and pregnancy together, so delays are normal and necessary.

Says luteal phase is short. A year
later, it is still short. Did not know if this was a result of age. Says she
is 43.

Didn’t start charting until 13 months
postpartum and luteal phase was 7. Has had a total of 14 cycles and luteal
phase is still short.
