- Grapes
According to Only My Health.com, "Medical professionals encourage pregnant women to avoid grapes during pregnancy, especially in the last trimester, because of their heat content. The heat content in the stomach is said to lead to loose motions and diarrhea. Raisins, which are dried grapes, have also been encouraged to be avoided during pregnancy as well. The reason is because grapes have high amounts of resveratrol - a chemical that can cause toxicity in the expecting mother. For this condition to occur, you have to consume alot of grapes. Sour grapes are acidic and can lead to heartburn in pregnant women who are more prone to it. They do note that eating grapes during pregnancy can also give nutrients like vitamin A and C" (Khaliq). According to Bold Sky, "There is controversy over eating grapes during pregnancy. Black grapes are said to be problematic for pregnant women, because the skin is said to become non-digestable by the weaken digestive system. This is echos the previous article about grapes being acidic, especially when they are sour. This can lead to heartburn and pregnant women are prone to it and the heartburn can lead to nause and vomitting. Resveratrol can be toxic to hormonally imbalanced pregnant women. A side effect of eating too many grapes heat stomach, which leads to loose motions and diarrhea. The risk for diarrhea is it causes you to loose fluids from the body" (Is Eating Grapes During Pregnancy Safe?).
- Papaya (Unripe, Semi-Ripe, & Green)
According to Only My Health.com, "It is encouraged not to eat Papaya during pregnancy. It is said women in Banladesh, India and Pakistan use it as abortifacient, but this is only if you eat alot of it vs normal amounts. Papaya intake is to said to maybe cause early labor or cause miscarriage. Unripe and semi-ripe papaya is rich in latex and is latex known to trigger uterine contractions. Green papaya contain papain enzyme, that should be avoided during the third trimester of pregnancy. Ripe papayas are said to be good for pregnancy. Ripe papaya contain lower levels of papain and is generally considered healthy for pregnant women" (Khaliq).
- Pineapple
According to Only Heath.com, "Pineapple are rich in bromelain, which can soften the cervix and lead to early labor" (Khaliq). What is interesting about this, is when I expecting my first and passed my due date my mother in law recommended eating pineapple to help start labor. I had my mother cut me a pineapple, I never ate it, just smelled it, and said I have to go pee. I'll be right back and believe it or not, pre-labor started with the bloody show and I went into labor that night, never getting to eat my pineapple.
