A quick read that has been helpful when I'm in a sad mood, has been the LDS (Latter Day Saint) book, How To Be Totally Miserable by John Bytheway.
As the title suggests, you will learn how to be miserable, but at the same time learn the ways not to be miserable. I started the book a little grumpy, but by the end I begin to realize, I have a choice to whether I am miserable or not. And I realized I was tired of feeling miserable, it's a very hopeless feeling. And I wanted to have hope and happiness again.
